Testing Intelligence

I'm very familiar with multiple intelligence theory, but a more influential tradition of mental testing was developed by Binet and his collaborator, Theodore Simon, in France. In 1094 the minister of public instruction in Paris named a commission to study or create tests that would insure that mentally retarded children received an adequate education. The minister was concerned that children were placed in classrooms for retarded children just because they had a behavior problem. Binet suggested the concept of a mental age or a measure of intelligence based on the average abilities of children of a certain age group (Cherry, Kendra, 2012).

In Africa for the past serveral years an investigated concept of intelligence in Africa hastaken place. Sternberg and Grigorenko have found that ideas about intelligence consists of four broad concepts: academic intelligence, social qualities, practical thinking, and the correlated with traditional Western measures of intelligence.

Natural Diaster

A natural disaster includes earthquake, floods, hurricane, landslides and mudslides, tornadoes, tsunamis, volcanos, and wildfires. Many people have experienced some type of natural disaster, but I have not experience it, but I know a family who was from New Orleans who children came to our Head Start center. The children were quite but they interacted with peer’s fine. As an adult I know that it was hard on them because they had come from another state meeting all these new people, leaving family behind, and possibly seeing friend or family member dead. A natural disaster brings many ramification such as death, damage materials like homes cars, and land. When natural disasters occur many lives children are affected because of the things they may see. I found an article were a Sports teacher Masami Hoshi said: ‘The tsunami came just when the parents of the middle age group were starting to arrive to collect their children so we managed to get them inside and to safety.’ The younger ones had left with their parents a little earlier. The ones who went home behind the school probably survived the ones who went the other way probably did not.” When the tsunami struck, 160,000 people were living in the town, which is about 50 miles north-east of Sendai. So far 425 have been confirmed dead with another 1,693, including the parents of the 30 pupils, listed as missing. Many families had to cook and eat outside of their damaged homes (Mail Online, 2011).

Personal Birthing Experiment

My personal birthing experience was exciting, even though it was so long ago, I remember giving birth to my daughter and my son. My daughter was my first birthing experience, I was a little scared and excited at the same time. I can remember the nurses and the doctor being very nice and making sure that I was comfortable. I went over my due date, so the doctors had been concerned that she was going to be 10lbs or more. I went through eight hours of labor with limited pushing before my beautiful baby girl arrived weighing at 9lbs and 11oz.

As i researched about other regins and how births happen, I was in total shock to see how the people are treated in some of the other countries. In China, the people expect to have boys so much that it even sounds like when you give birth it means you are having a boy. Chinese believe that if you eat dumplings, sunflower or watermelon seeds that you will have a boy. Also in China there is no privacy, all ob-gyns are all women doctors, no men allowed ( not even in the labor and delivery room). In Thailand it is similiar to the United States. In Napel men are not allowed, there is no nursery because they believe that babies belong with their mothers at all times, and to promote better flow of milk, the people of Napel rely on oil massages over the breast. In Argentina you must know the sex of your baby because you ned to know the name for him or her when born, parents are responsible for records and taking all records to check-ups, and after the birth of the baby, the babies' head are shaved, so that thick hair will grow out ( Care the World, 2011).
